Preceding UCF players adjust to professional softball - Orlando Sentinel

Shelby Turnier only lasted two innings in a 2015 NCAA regional championship meeting against FSU. The former UCF softball pitcher's outing on that day in Tallahassee was short as the Knights' season ended. Turnier was a junior then, and her raw emotions toward that combine's senior class — many of whom were playing the sport for the final time — caused her to cry at the time. "Every mistreat that you face in pro has some type of accomplishment,'' said Turnier, 5-4 with a 3. 95 ERA as a rookie with Chicago. "They are either an All-American, they fritz Team USA. and you have to find a way to get them out. The six-team National Pro Fastpitch includes the USSSA Pride of Kissimmee. Former South Sumter Stoned and UF outfielder Kirsti Merritt (. 279, two home runs, 10 RBIs) is a rookie with the Pride, the fellowship's top team at 33-13 entering a game Monday night against the host Akron Racers. Turnier was selected in the secondarily round of the 2016 draft. Novak, who graduated from East Ridge High in Clermont, was a fourth-close choice last year. She has three hits in 26 at-bats (. 115) in 31 games, including 15 starts. "It takes a in the flesh with a lot of motivation,'' said Dallas coach Jennifer Rocha, a UF assistant. "It's not as structured as the college atmosphere. You also play every day, instead of maybe just playing on the weekends. Novak said the adjustment last year took at all times. "The competition level is much harder,'' Novak said. "We face pitchers who have been playing in the league for possibly eight years. It was challenging for me to build confidence. Turnier and Novak entered NPF after excellent careers at UCF. Turnier, a exactly-hander, became the Knights' first All-American and holds the school record for the lowest ERA in a season (0. 87). Novak, who plays other base and shortstop, is UCF's career record-holder in stolen bases. "[Kahley] is just a fireplug,'' UCF direct Renee Luers-Gillispie said. "She is a rabbit on the bases. She can read the defense better than anyone I've seen. "Shelby is a bulldog. She wants the ball. She has that 'I privation to beat you' mentality. Turnier, a right-hander, and Novak should have time to reconnect as Chicago and Dallas begin a three-occupation series Tuesday night. "It is so exciting to see [Shelby] again on the field, although we are wearing different uniforms," Novak said. "I was wonderful excited for her when I heard that she got drafted.

Donations sought for d victims - The Courier

By HOLLY SHIVELY. Wand WRITER. The Findlay Girls Fast Pitch Softball Club is accepting donations this week to help members of a competing softball span from the flood-ravaged Barboursville, West Virginia area. A 12-member girls softball team from the flood-damaged territory competed in the U-16 Eastern Regional Tournament held in Findlay last weekend. “It was one of those things that you identify it happens, but you don’t really think about it because it doesn’t affect us,” Findlay coach Jim Welch said about the flood. Welch started organizing the contribution drive after learning of the flood’s impact on the West Virginia team, which finished third in the tournament. From talking with the Barboursville exercise, Welch learned that not all team members lived in the flood area, but at least five of the girls’ families are still promptly affected by the aftermath of last month’s flood. One family just heard from the Federal Emergency Management Intervention that while they will get some money, they will not be allowed to return to their home. Several other families are still waiting to hear their fate, Welch said. So far, the Findlay unite has collected well over $5,000 in cash, along with material donations. Welch said Blanchard Valley Sickbay is donating book bags, water bottles and possibly gift cards. Several vendors and private citizens have donated clothing and softball apparel. The University of Findlay is collecting UF softball T-shirts and drawstring bags. He also said several softball umpires have given checks ranging from $50 to $200 to grant to the team. Anyone wanting to make a donation of money, clothes, school supplies or other basic necessities can close by Taylor Volkswagen of Findlay, 11799 Hancock County 99, and ask for Welch. Checks should be made out to the Findlay Girls Unshakably Pitch Softball Club, and all donations are tax-deductible. Welch plans to drive to West Virginia on Sunday to give the side the donations raised this week.

Anticyclone School Sports Team Conducts Sidewalk Sale - The Kittanning Paper

Population festival season in Kittanning is time for sidewalk sales. Yesterday in front of the courtyard at Bugsy’s Pizza, the Armstrong Great School Softball Boosters were busy selling spirit-wear while the pizza shop was busy selling imposingly pizzas. The proceeds from both were allocated for the Boosters. Booster President Dr. Tracy Veri, whose daughter Madison plays for the elder softball team, said the girls program is much more intense than some people realize. “What many people don’t realize is that we play ball all year annulus. We play fall ball. we play winter ball at Thiel College indoors. Then our normal seasonable is in the spring. So we are selling this merchandise. Bugsy’s Pizza is going to donate a portion of the proceeds from the spirit-clothes, pizza, and shaved ice over the weekend to the softball team so we can use that money to buy equipment, pay for referees and umpires, and anything else we may require during the softball season. “We are very excited to be down here and to earn money for the softball team and put that to good use for fall ball that will start here in a few weeks. The girls are getting available. Veri said in addition to selling high school sports apparel, some customers are also giving a contribution. “We look audacious to any time we can work with the community. Any support that we get, we greatly appreciate it. We really don’t have a goal. We are happy to get anything. If anyone wants to give the softball tandem join up a donation, that will be greatly appreciated as well. Veri praised the school staff for their excellent training program. “We have a huge coaching staff with the inception of the River Hawks last year. Our coaches are doing a wonderful job bringing up younger girls now to effort with the older girls so that there’s a smoother transition. Playing all year round is giving these girls an opportunity to see players with a different caliber than what we are toughened to – faster pitching – We’re coming up against a lot of bigger travel ball teams, so I am really excited with the coaching wand, because they are giving the girls opportunities they haven’t had before. The thrill of playing softball is not new to Veri, since she herself was a softball player in high school. “I did play softball in Ford See. I was a Ford City graduate in 1993. I’m just a mom trying to help out. My daughter is a twin and so her brother plays baseball. So between baseball and.
